Photo\/Benjamin Cheer<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After beating Toronto 12-9 in their first pool play game, they faced the reigning champions Queens who gave them their first loss of the season by beating them 14-9. Laval finished off day one by beating McMaster 14-5, but due to a three-way tie they remained third in their pool going into the championship round on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Toronto, one of the favourites entering nationals after their win at CEUUC, returned to the final for their third year in a row. Toronto showed incredible discipline and skill throughout the season, and during nationals with solid handlers like Karen Chan and rookie Brittney Dos Santos. However, come the finals, Laval brought their A-game by capitalizing on Toronto\u2019s mistakes and dominated the contest, eventually winning their first title 12-5.<\/p>\n<p>Audrey Clothier, the MVP of the final, spoke about the importance of this win for future development; \u201cI think winning the gold medal will motivate returning and younger athletes to strive for excellence to defend that title in the future\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am really proud of the team,\u201d Clothier continued. \u201cAll the effort and determination, I am so happy to be coming home with a feeling of mission accomplished.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With two women\u2019s teams at CUUC this year, Laval has joined the ranks of powerhouse teams in the women\u2019s division and isn\u2019t going anywhere anytime soon.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to Toronto, they will be back strong next year despite graduating a line of<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_437\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-437\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-437\" src=\"http:\/\/ucm.canadianultimate.com\/secure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/DSC_0283cc-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ucm.canadianultimate.com\/secure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/DSC_0283cc-200x300.jpg 200w, http:\/\/ucm.canadianultimate.com\/secure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/DSC_0283cc-768x1152.jpg 768w, http:\/\/ucm.canadianultimate.com\/secure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/DSC_0283cc-683x1024.jpg 683w, http:\/\/ucm.canadianultimate.com\/secure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/DSC_0283cc-696x1044.jpg 696w, http:\/\/ucm.canadianultimate.com\/secure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/DSC_0283cc-1068x1602.jpg 1068w, http:\/\/ucm.canadianultimate.com\/secure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/DSC_0283cc-280x420.jpg 280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-437\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Reve Chan skies Audrey Clothier in the final. Photo\/Benjamin Cheer<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>veteran players.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will make space for the upcoming talent to carve their space and become dependable<\/p>\n<p>players in those high-pressure situations,\u201d said Alyne Azucena, one of the captains of Toronto, when asked about the future of the team.<\/p>\n<p>Azucena spoke about the depth of talent coming out of the youth programs in Toronto as well. She believes that with more encouragement and promotion, Toronto will be able to make another good run at the title in the coming years.<\/p>\n<p>After a universe point loss to Laval in the semi-finals, Queens found themselves unable to defend their title from 2016.
